In Komt u maar (Come one, come all), four friends are eager to plunge themselves into the fun fair. Ear-splitting beats drive them on, intensifying their experience of the surroundings. They willingly cave in to the pressure of all the attractions…
Toneelacademie Maastricht asked Floor Huygen, artistic director for Artemis, to develop the ‘werkplaats Jeugdtheater’, a project with second and third-year students of the academy’s performance and acting schools. Floor Huygen’s directing is based on the principle of creating ‘theatre for a wide range of ages’ developed by Artemis; performances that will fascinate both young audiences and adult ones. Originally, Komt u maar was part of a three-part project about landscapes that dealt with the impact of surroundings on human beings. Sound is an important element in this performance: it features a continuous, droning soundtrack that was compiled by the actresses themselves from sound recordings they made at the Maastricht fun fair. Komt u maar is the next step in the development of the wordless, the purely physical, choreographic aspects of a performance – as seen in Priemgeval (Prime) and Pakman, two earlier performances that Floor Huygen coached and directed respectively.
